Located in the dream town of Findlay, Ohio, the University of Findlay (UF) is a private university offering top programs in business, sciences, computer science and analytics, environmental health, and nuclear medicine. Beginning its journey in 1882, UF was incepted with the mission to equip students for meaningful lives and productive careers. Since then, the university has been cultivating the potential within each student through academic excellence, transformative experiences, and a supportive community grounded in the Christian faith. The exceptional quality academic programs focusing on hands-on learning and robust campus life have made UF into one of the best private universities in the Midwest.
The College of Business
UF’s College of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The mission of the College of Business is to develop business leaders who translate knowledge into professional actions that provide valuable contributions to a global society. To stay industry-relevant and prepare students for future careers in the ever-evolving business environment, the College of Business has also emphasized its programs to enhance the student experience, get businesses on campus, and create true partnerships.
Currently, the College of Business offers Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s Degrees. The undergraduate offerings target both traditional undergraduate students and working professionals or non-traditional students. Students enrolled in the traditional undergraduate program have the opportunity to earn certifications in Excel and leadership that are built into their curriculum. Moreover, the classes are conducted in a variety of modalities, including asynchronous online courses and face-to-face classes. There are also two distinctive courses, i.e., Marketing and Management, which are offered entirely online and have a Degree Completion Program for working adults with at least 61 transferable credit hours at a C level or higher.
The MBA program, one of the most popular programs selected by international students, aims to prepare tomorrow’s business leaders through a comprehensive curriculum focused on personal and professional development. It is offered both fully online and in a hybrid format. Students can choose from five-degree paths: Business Administration, Business Analytics, Certified Public Accounting, Certified Management Accounting, and Healthcare Management.
A Seasoned & Purpose-Driven Faculty
The full-time and part-time faculty members of UF’s College of Business bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and energy to the classroom and extra-curricular activities. The institute aims to ensure students have the best learning experience possible and are connected to the business community. They actively participate in national and international workshops, conferences, training programs, and seminars. In addition, faculty are members of numerous organizations of repute and hold multiple professional development certificates. Besides these, quality research is conducted by faculty members, which is then published in the form of manuscripts in high-impact factor, peer-reviewed academic journals.
Igniting Innovation & Unleashing Leadership Skills
Every year, UF hosts an ‘Innovation Competition’ at its campus for undergraduate students to learn more about innovation and entrepreneurship through developing an idea, creating a business plan, and delivering a final presentation. The competition is divided into three categories: green initiative, innovative business, and high school division. It is open to all UF’s full-time, part-time, and degree-completion undergraduate and high school students who would like to learn more about the business program at the university.
Another initiative taken by UF is through the Oiler 10 program. The mission of this program is to disrupt the status quo by doing education differently through working with external clients to improve their businesses while improving their skill-sets in the process. Oiler 10 is a student-run, faculty-mentored marketing and consulting agency where students gain authentic hands-on experience by providing support and solutions to real businesses and organizations. As a part of this program, student groups travel and learn from agencies and businesses around the country. They also have the opportunity to earn credit hours for participating in the group or as an extracurricular activity.
Similarly, the Dana Scholars Program, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, provides an opportunity for business students to connect higher education with the real world of business. Every year, a Dana Chair is selected by the Dean of the College of Business to serve as a team builder and provide leadership in the undergraduate business program. Each year, 10 outstanding business students are selected based on their academic achievements and leadership skills. At the Dana Chair’s discretion, guest speakers from various levels of business are brought in, and class trips are taken to area businesses.
BRITE Centre Paving Way for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
The College of Business at UF has set up a BRITE (Business Resource for Innovation, Teamwork, and Entrepreneurship) Center, which provides programs, events, speakers, competitions, and support to students and alumni who aspire to become entrepreneurs. In addition, multiple genres of professionals provide mentorship with a broad base of experience, from food service to health department codes to youth involvement and legal liabilities.
Taking it a step further, the College of Business partnered with UF’s athletic department to create the Pivot Program, which fosters personal innovation with an entrepreneurial mindset for student-athletes. Through a 6-week workshop with an entrepreneur within the Findlay community, student-athletes are given lessons on creating a personal brand and culture and using strengths beyond the athletic arena for life.
Student Life at UF
UF is fully committed to building and cultivating a community where every individual can be their authentic self. “We celebrate our commonalities and unique differences, and we acknowledge that diversity broadens learning, stimulates creativity, promotes the exchange of ideas, and prepares our students for meaningful lives and productive careers,” shares UF’s President, Dr. Katherine Fell.
Therefore, students belonging to culturally diverse backgrounds are accepted, valued, and supported throughout and beyond their learning journey. The university becomes their home away from home, where they make lifelong friends, take risks, be inspired, and become a bigger version of themselves. The campus provides 24+ intramural sports programs, small classes, 100+ clubs and organizations, and much more to keep the students happy, healthy, focused, and engaged.
Multiple Scholarships
There are numerous scholarship opportunities offered by UF, such as undergraduate merit scholarship, trustee scholarship, presidential scholarship, dean’s scholarship, Findlay Award, International Scholar Award, graduate student scholarships, and MBA scholarship. In addition to these, intensive English Language Program and sibling scholarships are also offered.
Keeping the Campus Community Safe was the #1 Priority During the Pandemic
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, UF provided additional training to its faculty and staff on hybrid and online course delivery. Moreover, the University’s Academic Technology Services (ATS) and Information Technology Services (ITS) worked diligently to ensure every classroom was outfitted with a monitor that contained a camera, microphone, and speaker. This enabled instructors to seamlessly and effectively conduct classes via Zoom while students attending classes remotely got the same classroom experience. Additionally, over 60 classrooms were fitted with a Poly Studio, allowing students to connect, interact, and bond with their peers and professors.
Likewise, UF designed and implemented the ‘Oiler Start Safe & Stay Safe Plan’ to promote a healthy environment and take the precautions needed to keep its campus community safe. This plan shared general information on health and safety protocols and weekly updates on COVID-19 positive cases with the entire campus community. In addition, UF also monitored national trends, followed CDC guidelines, and worked closely with local and state health officials.
UF will continue to provide students, parents, faculty, and staff with a safe environment, quality education, and positive experiences to last a lifetime.
