Higher education is important for every country, as it is a powerful tool to build knowledge-based society of the 21st Century. The top eight states in terms of highest number of colleges in India are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Among them, Tamil Nadu is undoubtedly the hub of knowledge creation in India. As per the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE), The total number of students awarded PhD-level degrees in India last year was 40, 183 and Tamil Nadu tops the list with 5, 844 PhDs. The highest number of doctorates in Tamil Nadu doesn’t come as a surprise. The state has numerous universities and PhD awarding institutions, which can attract students from all over the world.
